John O'BrienJohn O’Brien is one of the founders of Total Benchmark Solution, LLC. John has worked in the healthcare industry for over 25 years. He is a healthcare information systems industry leader and has worked as a senior executive and consultant in numerous roles and client engagements. Over the past decade he has focused his projects and consulting practice on healthcare information systems. He is known in the industry for his expertise in negotiating vendor agreements and managing vendors. He has also been involved with several major health systems with strategic information planning, system selection and also mergers and acquisitions. He has also lead numerous projects in the design and implementation of healthcare information systems and business process improvements. In his work with some of the largest health systems in the United States, John has evaluated and put in place numerous outsourcing arrangements that provided cost savings while at the same time improved quality of service. John began his career in healthcare information systems in the early 1980’s as a programmer and quickly moved up in his career to a senior executive and later a respected consultant in the healthcare industry. John not only possesses the executive leadership skills but also has the detail hands on experience with system development, design, programming and the detail technical aspects of complex environments. He has also developed very successful approaches and methodologies for system selection and fact-based evaluations. In the mid-1980s, he moved from custom developed systems to vendor systems and lead numerous system selection and implementation processes. John has had the opportunity to work with the leading healthcare information system and technology vendors. It was in this role that John was exposed to the challenges of establishing effective relationships between healthcare organizations and information systems and technology vendors. John is known as a insightful negotiator by his clients and organizations that he has represented, always striving to get the right deal done in a win – win approach. He has worked on a wide variety of significant agreements for some of the largest healthcare providers that include software development agreements, software licensing, IT leasing, outsourcing, application service providers, and system integrators. As a strategic consultant, John has also been involved in numerous engagements for mergers, acquisitions and consolidations. In this capacity, he has evaluated and put in place information systems organizations, staffing plans and new and revised business agreements and plans to effectively manage costs and budgets. Additionally from a strategic perspective he has developed information plans to effectively manage application portfolios that provided the appropriate integration while also managing costs and risks. John is also neutral on the American Arbitration Association Commercial panel and is know for his dispute resolution skills and approaches. He has worked extensively with health care clients and information system and technology vendors to resolve numerous disputes based on unmet expectations. John’s career and experience led him to establishing Total Benchmark Solution, LLC to give healthcare management the solutions needed to understand whether or not they were getting value from the investments that they were making in information systems. As someone that has grown up through the trenches of healthcare information systems, John knew that to establish a value evaluation that would require understanding cost, quality and satisfaction.
